  • Launched “super board” for managing traffic projects

    On the afternoon of May 16, the Department of Transport (MOT) of Ho Chi Minh City transferred the task of managing the construction investment projects of the Department to the Construction Project Management Board of traffic works.
    The Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Unit was established under Decision No. 5323 / QD-UBND dated November 28, 2018 of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City on the basis of separation of project management functions for traffic of urban traffic management zones No. 1, 2, 3, 4; Inland waterway management area and merger of Soai Rap channel dredging project management unit (phase 2) under the Department of Transport.

    The Board was officially put into operation from May 1, 2016 with the central task and implementation of urban traffic projects in the city, with 264 staff members.
    Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Luong Minh Phuc, Director of the Project Management Board of investment and construction of traffic works, said that he had received 409 projects from the Department of Transport. Specifically, there are 219 projects completed, finalized or in the final settlement stage; 107 construction projects in 2018 (25 projects to be completed in 2019); 26 new projects are scheduled for construction; 57 projects prepared for investment … The total planned capital assigned in 2019 (including budgetary capital and ODA capital) is 4,263 billion VND.

    Mr. Phuc said that the Board will use the investment capital effectively, disburse over 98% of the planned capital. Typically, it will focus on ensuring the progress of project teams to deal with traffic congestion around Tan Son Nhat airport and Cat Lai port; projects in the inner city and the gateway, the closed ring road 2, ring 3 and highways …

    Also at the ceremony, Mr. Tran Quang Lam, Director of the Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City, emphasized that investment in infrastructure development is the most important task in the program of reducing congestion and reducing traffic accidents of the city. In the context of rapidly increasing population density, high traffic pressure, and lack of traffic infrastructure, the Transport Project Management Board is carrying a heavy burden of work. A great responsibility is to ensure better travel for people, shorten project implementation time with the best quality.
